ENGIE Brasil formerly Tractebel Energia is a major Brazilian utility company, headquartered in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina.

It is one of the largest private electricity producers in Brazil.

Its 11 plants, six of them hydroelectric and the remainder thermal, have an installed capacity of 6,977 MW in operations ave an installed capacity of around 9,000 MW.

ENGIE Brasil's major shareholder is ENGIE, the Paris-based utility company.

The company originated as Gerasul, short for Centrais Geradoras do Sul do Brasil SA ('Power plants of the South of Brazil' in English) which was sold to Tractebel by Brazil's Eletrosul in 1998. Gerasul held Eletrosul's power generation assets in the southern Brazilian states of Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul. Gerasul changed its name to Tractebel Energia in 2002.

ENGIE owns around 68% of ENGIE Brasil stocks, which is traded on B3, the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The Company                                               

ENGIE develops and operates power plants, being also an active player in the energy trading activity.

The Company is Brazil's largest private sector generating company.

Headquartered in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina State, the Company has plants installed in Brazil's five regions, namely in the following states: Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Goiás, Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará.

The installed capacity of ENGIE Brasil Energia's generating complex is 7,070 MW and operates a generating complex of 8,790 MW, accounting for approximately 6.9% of Brazil's total.

The complex is composed of 31 plants operated by the Company, nine of which are hydroelectric power plants (HPPs), four thermoelectric (TPPs) and eighteen complementary plants: three biomass, eleven wind , three Small Hydroelectric Power Plants (SHPs) and one solar power plant. However, the installed capacity operated by ENGIE Brasil Energia is 8,790 MW, as four of these plants are commercially explored through partnership with other investors: Itá HPP, Machadinho HPP, Estreito HPP and Ibitiúva Bioenergética TPP.

ENGIE Brasil Energia counts more than 1.000 employees and its client base is composed of power traders, distributors and free customers. Besides the sale of electricity, the Company renders energy-related services such as installation of co-generation, operation and maintenance of energy production equipment and power quality monitoring.

The Company is controlled by ENGIE Brasil Participações Ltda which accounts for 68.71% of ENGIE Brasil Energia capital. ENGIE Brasil Participações Ltda is controlled by French-Belgian group ENGIE the world's largest independent energy producer, with a worldwide installed capacity of 112.7 GW. ENGIE operates throughout the energy value chain, in exploration and production, transportation, distribution, and trading of eletricity and natural gas.


EGIE3 was priced on September 30, 2017 at R$ 36.25/share, equivalent to a market capitalization of R$ 23.7 billion.
