Gap is cratering

A recent ad for Gap's kids clothing line.
Apparel retailer Gap Inc reported lower-than-expected quarterly sales at established stores, hurt by weak demand for its Banana Republic and Old Navy brands.
The San Francisco-based retailer's shares fell about 10 percent in extended trading on Monday.
Gap has struggled in the past few quarters after a series of fashion misses amid increasing competition from online and fast fashion retailers such as H&M , Forever 21 and Inditex's Zara.
"The company is identifying opportunities to streamline its operating model to be more efficient and flexible," Gap said in a statement.
The company estimated a profit of 31-32 cents per share for the first-quarter. Analysts' on average had expected 44 cents, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Comparable sales at Banana Republic stores fell 11 percent - the fifth straight quarterly decline - as the brand continued to struggle to attract shoppers.
Sales at Old Navy, a bright spot in recent years, fell 6 percent. Sales at the namesake Gap brand fell 3 percent.
Overall sales at established stores fell 5 percent in the quarter. Analysts on average had expected a decline of 2.6 percent, according to research firm Consensus Metrix.
Net sales fell 6 percent to $3.44 billion, missing the average analyst estimate of $3.54 billion.
The company is scheduled to report first-quarter earnings on after the bell on May 19.

個人覺得服飾業也是產品變動很大的領域，大眾的消費喜好隨時都在變化，一陣子美國風、一陣子日系、後來又韓流，抓不到大眾口味的企業只會被淘汰。而且一直都是群雄割據，競爭激烈，以台灣近況，不斷有外來品牌來瓜分大餅(H&M、Forever21、Zara、GU...)

前陣子逛 GAP撿便宜，老婆隨口說: 一天到晚在特價，這間公司快倒了吧
最敏銳的意見總是在身邊悄悄出現

DJ +1.24%，
以上皆以美元計。

我的美股總投入績效+32%，賺了400萬台幣，
以匯率32.5計。

我並沒有那個意思
也是跟著老師換匯
請勿介意
只是老師的學生遍佈世界各地
加入的時間匯率不一
用的不一定是新台幣
而且課程沒教到匯率這塊
若能統一用美股交易貨幣(美元)來討論績效
這樣才知道學生距離老師車尾燈有多遠啊
然後繼續回鍋補強啊

剛在看GAP，一年營業額高達15B USD，
台灣的電子公司大A...一年也差不多，市場每天都在喊PC不好，市況不佳...還是活的好好的..大家還是很有信心。
另昨天WALMART財報公布，RETAIL表現也不是很差....SHARE直接從63跳到68~69...
所以RETAIL/APPAREL會因為電商（AMAZON）而擊垮嗎？值得深思...
ANYWAY, GAP..越看越覺得OVERSOLD(.....因此低點加上DIVIDEND 0.23USD for Q1, 殖利率約在5%..
個人考慮撿一些來放了....供大家參考.

不知道大家怎解讀這個新聞，競爭力下滑是表示護城河變小了嗎

Gap 19日宣布將於2016會計年度關閉日本53家Old Navy店面、合計全年度將關閉包括Banana Republic品牌在內等75家據點。截至2016會計年度第1季底為止Gap總共有3,727家店面。Gap執行長Art Peck坦承成衣業轉變速度變快了、公司將加速轉型步伐。不過標普照樣調降信評至垃圾！

CEO 說的在更直白地說應該是日本人不喜歡老海軍賣得不好所以要將資源重新投入到更有機會的地方
As part of this, we have announced that we will be winding down our Old Navy operations in Japan, partly due to the macro factors in that environment and partly due to, frankly, needing to apply the resources to greater and higher potential opportunities. I am obviously disappointed that we're going to be discontinuing operations, but I view it as a sign of a good company, when you acknowledge that the business isn't going to deliver, and you make changes and move forward.
I am so, with respect to Old Navy, very bullish about its global growth opportunity, very excited about the potential that lies in front of that. China has been and will continue to be a key area of focus for the entire company. And so far in Mexico, I've been very pleased with what I've seen as the growth potential and profitability potential there as well.
