Oracle CEO Larry Ellison had a great explanation as to why the company missed fourth-quarter and full-year revenue expectations: Oracle is actually kicking butt.

It sold a lot of new cloud-computing contracts and that revenue won't show up right away, he explained to Wall Street analysts on the company's quarterly conference call.
Another fourth-quarter miss for Oracle is particularly shocking. That's always the company's biggest quarter, as salespeople push to close deals and make their annual quotas and bonuses.
To be fair, Oracle didn't have a bad quarter or year. It grew sales 3% for the year, to a record $38.3 billion. It dropped $13.2 billion to the bottom line in net income (non-GaaP, excluding unusual items), up 2% over last year.
Still, this is two years in a row that Oracle missed Wall Street's expectations for its fourth quarter instead of meeting, or even exceeding, them.
And investors were not pleased. The stock tanked in after-hours trading. It's currently down about 5% to about $40 a share, compared to Thursday's closing price of $42.51.
Why More Cloud Is Bad For Revenue, Good For Business

But Ellison and CFO Safra Catz had a good explanation: the company is selling a lot of cloud services, in some cases instead of regular software.For the first time, Oracle broke out how well its cloud services are doing: The Software-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service clouds were up 23% to $1.1 billion (on a GAAP basis), while the Infrastructure-as-a-Service revenues were $456 million for the year.
That's still a pittance compared to Oracle's software business: $9.4 billion worth of new software licenses revenues for the year (flat over last year) and $18.2 billion worth of product support and license updates, up 6%.
Still, selling a lot of cloud will make a company look like its revenue has stalled.
With a software contract, the revenue is recognized right away. But the cloud is a subscription billed over time. Revenue is only recognized when the monthly/quarterly/annual bill is paid.
But cloud is better for a software company over the long haul. Customers will pay more money for it over time. They save in other ways, because they don't need to buy hardware.
Eye On The Profitable Cloud, Not The Cheap OneThere are three types of cloud-computing services, and Ellison wants Oracle to dominate two of them because they are the most profitable.
"Oracle is focused like a laser on one goal over the next few years: becoming the No. 1 company in cloud computing in the two most profitable segments: Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)," Ellison said.
SaaS is when companies rent software applications over a network like the internet. Salesforce.com is the best-known SaaS company. PaaS is when companies use the cloud to host the apps that they've written. This is what app developers use.
The third is called Infrastructure-as-a-Service. It's currently dominated by Amazon, which keeps cutting prices, making it a low-margin game.
IaaS is when companies rent servers and operating systems and run whatever software they want on that. Oracle offers IaaS, too, but Ellison is not keen on pushing that business, he said.
That's because he'll reel in 40% to 50% margins for SaaS and PaaS, he says, the same margins as Oracle is making now selling software. It can do that because Oracle owns all the pieces necessary to run a cloud, including the hardware, the development software (Java), the database and the apps.
"We buy electricity and buildings, everything else we make. We think we can deliver these cloud serves without compromising margins whatsoever," he said.
A Better Way To Prove SuccessStill, if Oracle really wants to convince investors that it owns the cloud, there's an another way to do it: Show them the money.
In addition to reporting cloud revenues on its individual services, it could showcase cloud bookings, backlog or Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR), or some other figure that indicates the amount of money under contract, not yet billed.
If that number takes off, so will investor confidence in Oracle's future.

Oracle本身最強的武器是他們關聯式的Oracle database以及在開放原始碼領域收購的MySQL，
而他們也有自己的NoSQL產品，理當持續領先才對，
但它們在NoSQL的領域確實比其他對手慢了許多。目前市佔率最高的產品並非Oracle。
雖然如此，關聯式的重要性不會因為 NoSQL( Not Only SQL) 流行而減少。
許多基本的資訊系統仍然還是需要他。且移轉巨量資料庫的工程也不會這麼迅速，
通常此類移轉若再搭配其他系統整併重構，開發測試到完全上線至少是三、五年的計畫。

在上市故事中，阿里巴巴集团一再强调的核心业务之一是“云”和大数据，业务战略是“云+端”。这个基于“云”的宏大叙事，始于六年前的内部技术革命，善造概念的阿里，称之为“去IOE”——这已经成为一个新的短语。
　　2008年，王坚从微软亚洲技术研究院空降阿里，担任首席架构师。这个在阿里内部尊称为“博士”的首席架构师并非程序员出身，是一个不会写代码的架构师，却甫一到任就提出了让阿里一众“技术男”震惊的“去IOE”，即在阿里的IT建设过程中，去除IBM小型机、Oracle数据库及EMC存储设备。
　　去IOE的替代方案浮出水面：以廉价的PC服务器替代小型机，以基于开源的自研数据库替代Oracle数据库，不用高端存储设备则成为了阿里云的雏形。
　　基于开源协议和软件构建IT基础架构，这在国外互联网公司里并不鲜见，包括亚马逊、谷歌和Facebook都采用这一路线。但是，阿里当时IT基础架构基于最普遍使用的IOE，技术人员多为学IOE架构出身，其中很多人本就是IOE跳槽而来的人员。
　　王坚的技术路线，首先就是要拿下这些来自IOE的技术大牛。他的幸运是碰上马云这样一个不懂技术的老板。马云力挺王坚，逼着技术人员从头学起，给预算，招兵买马，整合团队。
　　王坚和团队花了五年时间，终于在2013年5月从支付宝下线了最后一台IBM的小型机，7月把Oracle的数据库“赶出”了淘宝核心的广告系统，并称将在两年内用自研数据库完全取代目前存量的部分Oracle数据库。在此期间，王坚利用一切机会为阿里云传道，公开疾呼去IOE。
　　阿里的自我革命并未全部完成，但去IOE概念已引发广泛的技术争论。阿里在已经形成壁垒的IT基础架构市场杀出血路，刚探索出的基于“云”的新方案逐步商用，已接入最保守的金融机构、高保密需求的政府部门，甚至开始用于司法取证系统。
　　2013年4月，马云在北大演讲中提到阿里云。当着已经晋升阿里CTO的王坚的面，他说：“网上都说我被王坚忽悠⋯⋯百度李彦宏懂技术、腾讯马化腾学技术，只有马云不懂技术。很多人就一直认为阿里巴巴的技术很差。其实正因为我不懂技术，但我们尊重技术，我们公司的技术才最好。”
“你要写上：淘宝2010年起不再购买小型机了”

阿里去IOE一开始是迫于无奈。
　　阿里巴巴研发院业务发展专家孙黎明回忆，从2006年和2007年开始，业务快速增长的阿里开始面临世界级难题——数据库太大。
　　2008年，阿里的数据库已经成为全亚洲最大的数据库用户。以当时的技术能力，如此大的数据库已经几乎不具备扩展可能。
　　“我们把全中国最知名的顶尖的DBA（数据库管理员）请到公司，一个晚上一张报表都做不出来，没有任何一家公司包括IBM、微软，能够为我们提供一整套的技术服务。”孙黎明说。
　　IOE架构也无法满足阿里电商平台秒杀类营销推广，“为了准备一次秒杀营销，从社会采购到安装部署至少需要半年的时间，才能完成IT系统宽容量的过程，但半年以后，这项业务几乎已经不存在了。”
　　对于“双十一”这样的业务暴增时点，IOE架构最让人头痛的则是需要估算交易量，到底需要多大的服务器和数据库才能保证不宕机？一次性上马太大服务器和数据库等于浪费，但若买小了又无法保证业务。
　　此外，众所周知，IOE投入、运维之成本，但是“阿里巴巴不愿意IBM的铁架子（服务器）躺着拿走淘宝利润”。
　　王坚告诉所有人：“不掌握核心技术就没有公司发展。”
　　阿里巴巴副总裁、去IOE项目负责人刘振飞，向财新记者回忆了王坚对去IOE的迫切。
　　2009年底，当时负责淘宝技术预算的刘振飞向王坚汇报，提出淘宝“2010年不会购买IBM小型机”，没想到被王坚挑战：“既然2010年可以不买小型机了，为什么还要给自己留后路以后还可能购买呢？你要在给董事会看的PPT上明确写一句：淘宝2010年起不再购买小型机了。”
　　刘振飞只好“攒出”一条去IOE的技术路线：“低成本、线性可控、去中心化（分布式）：去IBM，PC Sever替代小型机；去Oracle，用MySQL替代；去EMC，用中低端存储”。他最后以惊叹号结尾，粗体写上一句：“淘宝2010年起不再购买小型机了！”第二年，刘振飞进一步提出用MySQL+自研数据库（OceanBase）替代Oracle，并不再使用高端存储。
　　但最初刘振飞实际上心里没底。去IOE无先例可循，分布式和集中相比，在数据统一性上是否可以保证？开源数据库是否够稳定？这些问题后来在探索中都得到了解决。
　　和技术相比，让王坚和刘振飞更头痛的是人：“质疑的声音五花八门，有人怀疑去IOE的必要性，有人主张做几个试点具备能力就可以了，不需要彻底去IOE，还有人认为只要去掉IE就行，保留Oracle也无妨。”
　　但在刘振飞看来，阿里的痛点已经到了去IOE势在必行的地步：业务几乎每年翻番，系统扩展跟不上业务：“如果遇到机房电力或空调检修，需要将近30分钟才能完成数据转移。”
　　最终，一群“技术男”被心理学教授王坚“逼上绝路”，然后杀出了另一条路。
　　2012年，阿里所有的技术后台运维和运营部门集中整合，成立了全集团统一的技术保障部。阿里云形成了部门1200人全集团8000人的技术团队。
　　刘振飞总结，阿里巴巴去IOE的过程其实是阿里技术演进的缩影：一开始依赖商业软件，逐步形成自身的MySQL分支，成为开发使用开源软件MySQL最好的企业之一，然后是研发支持海量数据的分布式数据库系统OceanBase并用在多个关键业务。从用Oracle处理数据，到用Hadoop集群，到发展成业内单个机群节点数最多的Hadoop机群，再到用自主研发的飞天平台上的ODPS（Open Data Processing Service，开放数据处理服务）。“阿里实现了真正的云计算。”

淘宝当“小白鼠”
　　阿里的去IOE其实在两个层面展开，存量的重点是淘宝和支付宝，而新增业务，比如余额宝、众安保险则完全基于“云”来搭建。
　　当时淘宝在数据库方面需求最大，痛点最多，刘振飞希望可以从淘宝开刀。整个集团内部当时对去IOE充满焦虑，而淘宝团队居然站出来同意当“小白鼠”，刘振飞至今对此心存感激。
　　机缘巧合，淘宝在技术层面的一次更新也让去IOE更容易。2009年，淘宝因为自身业务需求，核心系统进行过一次服务改造，即在数据库和应用层之间增加了一个服务层，屏蔽了数据层的复杂性。
　　淘宝项目得以成功推进后，示范效应出现，阿里巴巴的B2B和支付宝陆续进入。2012年底，淘宝系去IOE完成。2013年5月17日，阿里集团最后一台IBM小型机在支付宝下线。而EMC存储设备在2013年中全部下线。刘振飞向财新记者强调，Oracle数据库并非完全下线，还有较少存量，计划两年内全部替换。
　　和存量相比，阿里新增业务使用“云”似乎理所当然，但是也并非一帆风顺。
　　天弘基金创新支持部总经理樊振华回忆了余额宝转“云”的历程。
　　余额宝2013年6月13日上线，从3月开始，樊振华团队和支付宝技术方进行整体架构沟通。
　　这是传统金融行业IT思路与互联网技术路线的第一次冲突，双方在闭关室足足讨论了四天，确定下来一期系统的建设目标和要解决的问题。
　　一期推出时，天弘基金的IT技术架构仍然基于IOE，天弘为了余额宝立项从软件和硬件准备了三个月，然而上线当天，基金网站系统瘫痪了。
　　马云的新要求是余额宝要参加更疯狂的“双十一”大促。这一次，樊振华没有选择，只能用阿里云，又用了三个月，天弘基金把余额宝“搬上了”阿里云。
　　樊振华在回忆中形容这个过程“非常艰辛”，但结果惊人。原有的IOE系统设计并入是400台服务器，清算时间8小时，交易笔数是3亿笔账户达到1000万，对于一个在业界处于中下游的基金公司而言，这样的设计已经非常大胆。9月26日，使用云之后，支持并入到5000台服务器，清算时间30分钟以内，处理笔数在“双十一”之前为7亿多，账户有效用户数1亿。天弘终于敢参加“双十一”了。
　　2013年“双十一”当天，整个余额宝系统发生了1679万笔交易，资金规模超过1000亿元，用户数3000万。“对于天弘基金乃至整个基金行业，这都是不可想象的。” 樊振华说。
技术问题还是信任问题
　　在业界对阿里能否完全去掉Oracle数据库的质疑声中，阿里已经迈上商用道路，并挤入了金融机构和政府的IT系统采购名单。
　　刘振飞说，阿里内部去IOE成功后，来交流的机构非常多，其中金融机构比例很大：“数据库技术团队有次和我开玩笑说，他们都快变成专业接待部门了。”
　　金融机构对阿里的诉求很简单，安全和稳定。为了更有说服力，阿里手里拿着各类安全认证，但在交流中，阿里更愿意讲自己的案例。支付宝在去IOE的过程中，为了满足金融行业的应用场景做了许多针对性开发，其核心交易系统已经切换到阿里自研的OceanBase数据库上。
　　众安保险的基础架构即基于阿里云，在开业前花了五个月的时间完成两地三中心的部署。系统上线五天就被拖进“双十一”，当天产生160万笔保单，系统处理保单花了2个小时。这样的处理能力，成为阿里云对外业务介绍时的案例。
　　技术界至今仍有声音认为，IOE比开源技术更安全。但阿里上下对此众口一词称是误解，并解释开源软件的优势在于开放透明，大家都可以来发现和纠正安全隐患。
　　“安全忧虑的本质是信任问题，信任问题惟一可以解决的方法是靠透明。”在刘振飞看来，企业、机构或政府要做的是信任选择，选择信任传统硬件厂商，还是阿里云计算服务。
　　IOE的高成本在业界已被诟病多年，阿里巴巴提供新的更便宜的可选方案，但并不想打廉价牌。
　　王坚和刘振飞都反对将去IOE的原因归结为单纯省钱，以及排外或追求国产化的问题。
　　虽然淘宝商品库当年用20%的成本实现了500%的容量，但并不表明后期运维就不花钱。
　　“IOE的运维成本固然高昂，开源软件的升级和维护成本也不能忽视。”刘振飞强调。但对于IOE的普通用户，因为IOE报价相对高，“云”的维运成本节省依然明显，一般只有IOE系统的20%，规模越大，相对成本越低。
　　现在找阿里的金融机构主要有两类：小银行和非主流业务。小的村镇银行一直缺乏IT系统支持，阿里输出“云”的同时，其实还是IT服务运营商的角色；而大银行在现阶段全系统改造风险尚待评估的情况下，也已经开放部分业务，尤其是对接电商的业务。
　　在“智慧城市”成为各地政府政绩考核要素之后，再加上适逢政府新一轮信息安全担忧之际，阿里云和政府机构的合作推进更显顺利了。阿里趁势快速签下了杭州、海南、广西多地的“智慧城市”，大力输出阿里云概念。
　　2014年5月，阿里云拿下国家气象局项目，将为气象信息提供数据挖掘服务。6月12日，司法系统也植入阿里云，在电子取证后快速上传并获得司法鉴定和认证，全国上百家法院已开始认可这些电子证据的真实性。

可能云计算是IBM（大型机）、Oracle（数据库）、EMC（存储）遇到的挑战。这三家的客户都是企业，现在企业们有了其他路径：云计算，来满足自己需求。如果这是技术发展趋势，IOE就麻烦了。这是财新杂志近期的一个主题：去IOE。我读了copy给大家参考。不过技术发展趋势总归很难判断，不如那些产品不变的公司买的放心。

雖然是趨勢....不過我很好奇一些問題,有人能解答ㄇ

1. 降低成本, 沒考慮未來升級和維護？2. IOE的客戶群不是一般小型企業, 很多大型客戶依然依賴數據庫(冒不起風險吧？)

3.假設真的去IOE, 這些客戶群要擁抱誰？

4.安全問題？(有些客戶不見得會省成本捨安全)

先正名一下去IOE，狹義指的是去掉IBM的小型机、Oracle数据库、EMC存储设备，
代之以自己在开源软件基础上开发的系统
而目前這篇文章提到去IOE的做法，被中國的電子商務龍頭阿里巴巴實作出來。
但個人還是認為，短期內不造成影響。因為這方案早在google , facebook就實作已久，
有影響力，但不夠快速。
老實說小弟公司就正在玩這套，公司的角度是要均衡各廠牌的使用，以便採購議價，
針對大型系統才能使用IBM的informix以及Oracle的Oracle DB產品，
非大型系統則要改用開源的資料庫，用什麼呢? MySQL，結果也是Oracle的產品。
一個坑跳到另一個坑。省是有省，還是得付費(每年訂閱費用以及維護人天費用)。
當然技術能量足夠強大到可以自行研發自己資料庫的公司，
如此就有另一條路可走(如同文中阿里巴巴有自己的OceanBase資料庫)，甚至可以拿它來當產品，
服務其他有此需求的企業，不過有多少企業可以這樣玩? 非科技產業幾乎不可能。
所以個人覺得JILL大考慮的沒錯，您提的1.2.4點正是一般公司在面對去IOE時最掙扎的點。
要這麼作就是為了降低成本，但移轉過程中的隱含成本，加上風險，更重要的是安全性及穩定性
這些都會讓一般中小企業卻步。
至於最後去IOE要擁抱誰? 沒辦法靠自己還是得靠別人。
廣義的去IOE，指的是把企業本身所需要的計算轉嫁到其他企業的雲計算中心。
一個可能的方向是擁抱雲服務商，但這些服務商底層使用的雲端資料庫是什麼??
MS、Oracle、MySQL、Informix、Hardoop。逃得了和尚逃不了廟。
附帶一提，目前Oracle在近幾年陸續強打他們的exadata主機及雲端計算架構，
這邊可以給大家延伸查詢

所以我就思考是否要加碼ORCL，因為資訊多要處理與應用才有價值，
物聯網一些資訊或許可使用MYSQL免費的留存與取用(不須高安全管控)，
各方面的應用多了，也會帶動需要比較穩定與高安全的資料庫(ORACLE ...)需求。
阿里雲很厲害，他們發展成自己的一套技術，能夠處理這樣大量的交易資訊，
就跟google一樣讓搜尋變得這樣快。
個人覺得:
1.這是他們的獨門技術，所以應該『獨享』，不會拿出來分享(賣)。
所以要過好一陣子才有可能對ORACLE有大的影響。
2.資料庫-新技術也要能搭上原本的應用系統，各行各業的系統不論是ERP....或是...銀行系統，
不可能就跟換硬碟一樣，直接就抽換。
3.如果新技術費用低(比每年的維護費低很多，老闆就會認真考慮)，
安全性高(新技術尚未大量應用是否經得起駭客的考驗??)，那時ORACLE就倒大霉。
以上是個人小小看法。

因為我本身有在玩咕狗和fb.....一點都不安全
所以重要東西完全不可以放上去

不過唯一改變的是作業效率

淘寶怎麼由一開始簡單幾台機器一直擴展到現在的規模, 這裏有本書可以參考一下, 淘寶裏面的人寫的

當然裏面少不了技術術語, 但拿來讀讀也蠻有趣的
看他們怎麼由PC + MySQL + Apache, 到Oracle + IBM + EMC,
再導入Hadoop, 開發了Oceanbase
後面用這些都是開源的(簡單來說是免授權費的)
然後為了因應大陸地理環境廣大, 在各地建了CDN, 把資料分布到各省節點去, 加快取到資料的速度, 也加強使用者體驗
 
架構的想法上應該是參考國外Google, Facebook的做法
原則上是, 不要把資料, 運算能力集中, 想辦法分散到不同主機上, 儘量有效的使用所有空間和CPU能力
要MapReduce的概念
然後相信資料一定會遺失, 所以同一份資料要存好幾個複本
所以Hadoop, Oceanbase這些架構慢慢發展出來改善現有系統 (其實很快他們就做到了)
(他們把Oceanbase也開源了, 在這 http://alibaba.github.io/oceanbase/ 任何人都可以下載回去用)
 
做完這些架構, 當系統的運算能加或儲存空間不夠, 就買PC或Server(不是IBM主機等級的, 就INTEL CPU的Server)加進去, 所以會看到像上文說的機器數量都幾千台幾萬台在算的
當這架構出來, 機器想加就加, 壞了就換, 使得淘寶或者說阿里的這架構有很大的彈性
去年1111當天成交人民幣403億, 幾乎沒出現網頁卡死不動的情況
(有上網搶過春節火車票的大概知道我們的系統做的怎樣...)
大概能了解這架構的實力到什麼程度
 
Oracle短時間內要換掉不太可能, 但如果阿里多做成幾個案子再加上國家支持, 以後Oracle在中國的前途就難說了
雖然MySQL已被Oracle買去, 但是MySQL畢竟是開源的, Oracle把它買去能靠這賺錢, 或是想影響開源的發展我是不太了解
 
還有以現在常講的雲端來說
Amazon, 資料庫提供MySQL, MS SQL
Microsoft, 資料庫提供MS SQL
像這些都提供用戶購買虛擬主機搭配資料庫, 裏面沒看到有搭Oracle的 (成本高)
 
上面只就印象所及大略寫寫, 萬一寫錯各位勿怪

那ORACLE未來的挑戰就大了，
服務的單位以前使用大主機進行大量服務(也不是很大)，
現在
跟淘寶做法一樣，用數台等級較低的機器(PC)取代大的伺機主機
(利用1-20台PC閒置時間進行服務，省了買大機器的錢與服務合約$)
ORACLE產品會變，但週期不算短，優勢還在。
書買來研究看看，ORACLE股票就不加碼了。

Oceanbase開源那實作
多國營再表或是程式交易，若須大量資料儲存就不用花大錢了?!

BEIJING ( Caixin Online ) — E-commerce companies and banks in China are scrapping hardware and uninstalling software for mainframe servers made by American suppliers in favor of homegrown brands said to be safe, advanced and a lot less expensive.

The movement has taken special aim at products made by the American companies IBM Corp.IBM -0.06% , Oracle Corp.ORCL +0.10% and EMC Corp.EMC +0.65% — a tripartite powerhouse with deep roots in corporate IT departments across China.
Domestic rivals of these companies such as Huawei Technology Co.CN:002502 +10.03% and Inspur Co. CN:000977 +1.21% HK:0596 +1.20% are winning contracts from state company and bank IT departments at an accelerating rate. Some companies, such as e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, have been building internal computer networks with open-source software and commonly available hardware.
The movement dates to 2008, when Alibaba’s computer-network department director Wang Jian proposed cutting back on foreign suppliers and replacing their wares with equipment and technology developed almost entirely in-house.
What Wang wanted to get rid of most was the so-called IOE system, an acronym for an IT network based on the names of three suppliers: IBM, whose servers are packaged with the Unix operating system; Oracle, which supplies database-management systems; and EMC, the maker of data-storage hardware. Wang dubbed his campaign the “De-IOE Movement.”
Wang decided to revamp Alibaba’s network by replacing its Unix-based servers with less expensive, X86-based PC servers running on the open-source Linux operating system. In such a system, several PCs with X86 microprocessors inside can be linked in a chain to function as a server, replacing a mainframe server. The e-commerce company also built a database management-system of its own with an open-source structure, and started storing data on an internal cloud-storage system.

Alibaba thus followed in the footsteps of other major Internet companies such as Amazon AMZN +1.01% , GoogleGOOG +0.41% GOOGL +0.42% andFacebook FB +0.70% , which earlier built their own computing networks.

De-IOE Movement milestones were reached in May 2013 when Alibaba pulled the plug on its last IBM server, and two months later when Alibaba’s advertising department abandoned its Oracle database. The rest of the company’s databases are scheduled to switch to a homegrown system from Oracle’s by 2015.
IT departments at companies and banks across the country are now following Alibaba’s example — and hitting their longtime American suppliers in the pocketbook.
Bank withdrawalThe switch to servers made at home has been a slow process for Chinese banks. Ultimately, the banks’ IT experts have been making these decisions, although they’re being encouraged by the government to choose Chinese suppliers, according to a source close to the China Banking Regulatory Commission.
The now-famous 2013 revelations involving former U.S. computer-security expert Edward Snowden, who blew the whistle on government espionage, gave a boost to proponents of the De-IOE campaign.
But the switch is not happening overnight. A Bank of China HK:3988 +1.75% BACHY +1.01% CN:601988 0.00% IT department employee said some Chinese suppliers have yet to meet the security and stability standards that are required of any bank computer network working with customer accounts. Moreover, he said, a system overhaul can carry a high price tag. BOC already spends more than 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) on IT.

Are 4K televisions here to stay?Ultra-HD 4K televisions promise crystal-clear picture clarity. Prices have fallen, but Internet speeds and a lack of content could limit the TV’s functions.

“It’s not easy for major banks to change their core systems, due to high replacement costs,” said the employee, who asked not to be named.
IOE systems have been commonly used in Chinese banks since the late 1990s, and are at the heart of the IT networks driving 70% of the world’s banks and other financial institutions.
The rise of Internet banking is spurring major banks to explore new IT options and cut back on IOE systems. A source at a state bank noted, however, that basic computing for customer accounts still relies on IOE systems.
In 2007, according to a survey that year by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and Ministry of Finance, less than 2% of the IT equipment operating at major financial institutions nationwide had been supplied by Chinese companies.
Homegrown servers were slowly introduced over the next five years. Banks then picked up the pace after the State Council, China’s cabinet, issued guidelines for protecting sensitive data in the name of national security. An increasing number of bankers decided to follow these guidelines by reducing their reliance on IOE systems.
What security risks are posed by IOE systems? According to an official at the People’s Bank of China, one risk is that IT employees at a Chinese bank might fail to detect technical problems in a product that is made by a foreign company. Moreover, he said, political friction between China and other countries, such as the United States, could affect contracts with IOE suppliers.
Additional changes will not happen overnight, partly because the IOE companies as well as America’s Microsoft Corp. MSFT -0.38% and Hewlett-Packard Co.HPQ -0.03% offer customers integrated solutions that make it difficult to replace individual pieces of equipment or software. An IT consultant who advises banks said IBM, for example, is so entrenched that China’s banks would likely need about 20 years to replace all IOE systems.
“Getting rid of IOE means that all of the software must be moved and made compatible to domestic server systems, which seems to be a mission impossible,” said the consultant.
Big banks are thus moving cautiously, said the BOC employee, because they want to protect their huge customer and transaction databases. They cannot afford to be hasty because replacing one part of a network can affect others.
And replacement costs can be astronomical. “The basic technology networks for an IOE system and a ‘De-IOE’ system are totally different,” said another source a state bank. “De-IOE will lead to transforming personnel and management. It’s hard to estimate how high the costs will be.”
Ultimately, said the IT consultant, Chinese banks will only manage to kill off IOE systems if products made by Chinese suppliers can provide comparable security and capacity levels, and if the new hardware and software are compatible.

其實不用說去IOE，光是既有IOE軟硬體作提升改版就弄得人仰馬翻了

我可以稍微形容一下更換的成本與風險：

與阿里巴巴這種網路電子商務公司不同，金融業、製造業的系統，會跟法規、內部流程組織有很深的結合，更與很多外部機構介接。

以國內金融業來說…業務繁多、流程複雜，需和一堆外部單位往來，包括

國內的期交所、財金公司、集保結算所、央行、聯徵中心；
國外的SWIFT、路透、海外據點；一些大客戶：中鋼、台塑…等都有系統與資訊連結，還必需符合一堆國內(央行、金管會)、國外政府法規、ISO、資訊安全認證規範、個資法…等，

砍掉重練不曉得成本、風險多龐大，又看不到對"業務"拓展有何助益，能提高公司ROE嗎？

最後補充一下，其實很多是用 "IIE" --> IBM機器 + IBM DB2 + EMC Storage

Cloud grows faster, but legacy business still dominates revenue

Safra Catz, co-chief executive officer of Oracle Corp.Oracle Corp. reported better-than-expected revenue in its cloud business, to the detriment of its legacy software business.
Oracle ORCL, +0.10% said total revenue in its fast-growing cloud business jumped 40% to $735 million, up from $527 million in the year-ago quarter. That included a surge in software-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service software, where revenue grew 57% in the fiscal third quarter to $583 million, up from $372 million a year ago. Total cloud, though, was only 8% of Oracle’s total revenue.
At the same time, Oracle’s core software business, which still made up 70% of its total revenue in the quarter, was down 4% to $6.3 billion. In addition, total hardware products, including support, was down 13%, to $1.1 billion and new software licences, a closely watched barometer for its legacy business, were down 15%, to $1.7 billion.
“If we can trade licenses for cloud, that’s what we doing,” said Oracle Co-Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officer Safra Catz on the company’s conference call, when asked about the slightly lower- than-expected drop in software licence revenue.
Oracle still managed to beat Wall Street’s consensus earnings estimates, on an adjusted basis, and the company said it was adding $10 billion to its stock buy-back plan. Its shares jumped 4% in after-hours trading, and investors also seemed to be encouraged by Oracle’s pledge that fiscal 2016 would be its trough year for operating income, as the high costs for starting up cloud services would begin to ease.
“We’re actively working to transform our entire business,” Catz said. “We are far enough along that our financial statements will begin to show our success with accelerating revenue growth, operating margin expansion over time, leading to very solid EPS growth.”
Ahead of Oracle’s report, some analysts were still quite cautious about a host of issues associated with its transition, including lower-cost rivals, including Amazon.com’s AMZN, +0.64% AWS. Executive Chairman Larry Ellison, with his usual bravado, predicted that Oracle will eventually surpass Salesforce.com CRM, -0.72% as the largest software-as-a-service company, and Co-Chief Executive Mark Hurd rattled off a slew of new customer names who have replaced their Workday Inc. WDAY, -3.14% implementation in favor of Oracle.
Investors will be watching.

　消息公布後，甲骨文股價在周四早盤跳空大漲11％，報51.63美元，創歷史新高，成為美國第1家市值超過2,000億美元的商用軟體公司。
　甲骨文上季營收年增3％至109億美元，淨利達到32億美元，相當於每股盈餘（EPS）76美分。排除部分費用後，甲骨文上季每股盈餘89美分，高於華爾街日報調查分析師預期的78美分。
　綜觀各部門表現，雲端部門無疑是推動上季整體獲利成長的幕後功臣。甲骨文雲端部門上季營收年增58％至14億美元，其中雲端軟體服務營收年增67％至10億美元，雲端平台及基礎建設服務營收也年增40％至4億美元。

ORCL是個有很寬的護城河的公司，因為一但用上了他們公司的產品，幾乎不可能再換另一家solution.AA級的A咖!ORCL提供的大型的資料庫(數據量很大的)，尤其是交易資料，你可以想像，一家銀行有著幾十年的資料，用的都是他們家的產品產生的資料庫，即使有更便宜的，也沒辦法想換就換，而且應該沒有幾家銀行能承受換到另一家資料庫帶來的風險。所以他們收的年費，訓練費，顧問費，客戶對於他們幾乎是難有什麼還價的能力。
現在雲端也做起來了，那就更難有敵手了。

==>雲端的產品是那些? 賣點是?

不太變動且是公開的資料可以改用文字格式(Json...XML...) ,例如郵遞區號上市公司代碼... 之類
讓程式讀取或者使用小型免費 MY SQL 取代以降低對大型資料庫的依賴

微軟將Office 網路化變成Office 365 加上新開發應用
可以靠著 OS 綁住公司行號

對ORCL只知道有資料庫. 但很多地方都降低大資料庫的依賴
對它的成長...看不懂請學長分享一下OK?
