CSX Corp. shares jump amid reports of activist targeting

CSX Corp. CSX, -3.18% shares rallied in the extended session Wednesday after reports that departing Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. CP, -0.45% CEO Hunter Harrison will partner with activist investors to target CSX. CSX shares jumped 11% to $41 a share after hours, following a 3.2% decline in the regular session whenearnings missed Wall Street targets late Tuesday. Last year, CSX turned down Canadian Pacific's $20 billion offer to acquire the railroad.

CSX predicts 25 percent profit jump as restructuring begins

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — CSX Corp. says restructuring and cost cutting under new CEO Hunter Harrison will lift profits at the railroad around 25 percent this year.
The Jacksonville, Florida-based railroad says its earnings per share will jump about 25 percent over last year's $1.81, but that excludes restructuring costs.
